Yes, I agree that the author's grandmother was a person strong in character. She was a strong woman with strong beliefs. Although she was not formally educated, she was serious about the author's education. She could not adjust herself to the western way of life, Science and English education.

The most important lesson that we learn from such hazardous experiences, when we are face-to-face with death, is not to lose hope under any circumstances. At times, life presents very dire situations but if one is optimistic about finding a solution and overcomes the odds, one will always be successful.

The words like yacht, boat, canoe, ship, steamer, schooner are the words which represents the different kind of vessels present in a boat. We need to write those words in our language which have a similar meaning to them. In our language, the vessels used are a cutter, watercraft, ketch, galley, sloop.

Extinction of languages and dialects can be prevented through the following reasons.

• Transferring the vocabulary and dialects of the language to the next generation.

• Teaching the languages in colleges and universities and encouraging students to specialise in the same.

• Teaching children to use mother-tongue.

• Remaining connected to one’s cultural roots.

• Respecting one’s language which will help in taking it forward to the coming generations.
