Hello, Good question! Shruti means a further subdivision of the 12 main divisions (Swaras) of a scale .. If we start from C Middle (C4) having a frequency of 261.63 hertz, Following will be the sequencial frequency of scale starting from C4 to C5 (C5 has a doubled frequency of C4) 523.25 C4 261.63 131.87 C#4...

If we dig into deeper math, This range of frequency is nothing but a Geometrical progression series. I.e. Once we multiply C4 frequency with a Twelfth root of two .. we reach the immediate next note.. i.e. C#4 to reach the next note D4 once again multiply twelfth root of 2 to C#4 frequency ie. 1.05946 and we reach D4 .. Now if we back to original Question of Shruti .. If we want to devide this range of C4 to C5 into 24 equal devisions we can use 24th root of two ie. 1.0293 to get a non standard version of swaras called shrutis .. So here the scale will have 24 steps in place of the standard 12 steps Now we can do this divisions mathematically on and on but whether we can distinguished between those very fine shrutis? its another question .. Depending on 'resolution' or capacity of our ears .. read less
