In coordinate geometry reflection is given as below 1. Reflection about X-axis: In this all the points (x,y) go to the points (x,-y). i.e. the plane above X-axis gets mapped below X-axis & vice versa. Example: If P(1,3) is a point in 1st quadrant then under reflection about X-axis it goes to...

Example: If P(1,3) is a point in 1st quadrant then under reflection about X-axis it goes to P*(1,-3) in 4th quadrant. 2. Reflection about Y-axis: In this all the points (x,y) go to the points (-x,y). i.e. the plane on the right of Y-axis gets mapped to left of Y-axis. Example: If P(1,3) is a point in 1st quadrant then under reflection about Y-axis it goes to P*(-1,3) in 2nd quadrant. Similarly, we can define reflection about the lines y=x, y=-x. In General, we can define reflection about any line in plane. read less

Suppose a coordinate A(1,1) in 1st quadrant, if you place a mirror in y-axis then the reflection of A will be in 2nd quadrant. as you have kept the mirror in y axis, the value of y-coordinate will not change, only the value of x will change. and that too with minus (-) sign. i.e, now the reflected coordinate...

Same with x-axis, if you keep mirror in x axis, the reflection will be in 4th quadrant. the value of x coordinate will remain same and the y coordinate value will be the minus of original value. i.e, (1,-1). read less

If you fall a light on a opaque object from a source, then we get the coordinate on the opposite axis with respect to the coordinates of the light source of light. Also, we get unique coordinates for a given coordinate of light source.

In Mathematics, a reflection (also spelled reflexion) is a mapping from a Euclidean space to itself that is an isometry with a hyperplane as a set of fixed points, this set is called the axis or plane of reflection.
