Adverbs:

Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs.

An adverb tells more about a verb in the sentence.

An adverb describes more about an adjective in the sentence.

An adverb modifies another adverb in the sentence. Most adverbs are formed by adjectives.

Adverbs: Changing adjectives to adverbs

Adjectives can be changed to adverbs by adding "-ly" to the end of the word. If the adjective ends in "-y", change the "y" to "i" and add "-ly".

  • Slow: Slowly
  • Quick: Quickly
  • Loud: Loudly
  • Clear - clearly
  • Happy: Happily
  • Easy: Easily

Adverbs: Changing adjectives to adverbs

If the adjective ends in "-le", "-able", or "-ible", replace the "e" with "y". If the adjective ends in "-ic", add "-ally" to the end of the word.

  • Gentle: Gently
  • Idle: Idly
  • Reasonable: Reasonably
  • Probable: Probably
  • Possible: Possible
  • Horrible: Horribly
  • Enthusiastic: Enthusiastically
  • Realistic: Realistically.
